What Shumoku is

A regenerable map for real infrastructure

Shumoku treats network topology as an operational map that can be generated, updated, and trusted instead of a drawing that slowly drifts away from reality.

It can start from YAML, NetBox, LLDP, SNMP, network scans, monitoring systems, or your own APIs, then turn those sources into topology views for documentation, CI, web apps, and live operations.

Network diagrams that don't drift away from reality.

Readable

The overall shape and connection relationships are clear at a glance.

Trustworthy

The map is grounded in actual infrastructure data, not stale slides.

Regenerable

Topology can be rebuilt continuously as the network changes.

Operational

Traffic, status, alerts, sharing, and documentation live on the same map.

The Shumoku stack

Shumoku is not only a server. It is a set of libraries, renderers, tools, and apps for turning infrastructure data into maps you can operate from.

Core

Models, parsers, layout, themes, plugin types, and shared helpers. The renderer-agnostic foundation used across Shumoku.

Core docs

CLI / npm packages

Render YAML or JSON topology to SVG, interactive HTML, or PNG for Markdown, documentation, CI, and product embedding.

CLI docs

Server

A self-hosted operations app for topology management, live metrics, alert overlays, dashboards, and read-only share links.

Server docs

Editor

A visual design tool for physical topology, devices, modules, cables, project files, BOM, and PoE analysis.

Project background

About Shumoku

The name, logo, and design philosophy all point to the same idea: topology diagrams should reveal a structure that already exists in the network.

Name

The name comes from the shumoku, the striker used with a hanging bell. Shumoku aims to be a quiet support for the beginning of network operations.

Logo

The logo is modeled on Gabriel's wings: a symbol for the moment an unseen structure is brought into view.

Philosophy

A diagram should not invent topology. It should give a readable outline to the connections, paths, and dependencies already present in the infrastructure.

Commercial support

Open source first, commercial help when you need it

Shumoku is AGPL-3.0 open source software. A commercial contract is not required to use it. Paid support is a separate service for organizations that need private investigation, deadlines, or implementation help.

Support boundary

Community

Reproducible bugs, general questions, feature requests, and documentation improvements that can be discussed publicly.

GitHub Issues / Discussions / Discord

Commercial

Environment-specific investigation, private support, guaranteed response, deadline-bound work, and custom development.

Commercial work can cover

Deployment and operations support
Data source integration
Environment-specific mapping
Custom plugin development
Priority or deadline-bound work
Proof-of-concept support

Commercial support is delivered with non-exclusive partners such as TelHi Corporation (輝日株式会社). Project direction, roadmap, releases, and governance remain with the Shumoku Project.

FAQ

Is it free?

Shumoku is open source under AGPL-3.0 — free to use, no commercial contract required. We offer paid support, consulting, and custom development for production deployments.

Can AGPL-3.0 be used commercially?

Yes, as long as you follow the AGPL-3.0 terms. Commercial support does not change the software license. If AGPL does not fit your situation, contact us to discuss it.

How is it different from PHP Weathermap?

Shumoku is topology-first: multi-layer navigation, 900+ vendor icons, native data-source plugins, alerts, dashboards, and sharing without requiring Grafana.

Can I use it without monitoring tools?

Yes. Use YAML, NetBox, network scan, or a custom plugin as a standalone topology viewer. Monitoring integrations are optional.

Can I use it without NetBox?

Yes. YAML definitions, SNMP + LLDP network scan, Zabbix LLDP topology, and custom plugins are all supported paths.

What is the difference between Server and Editor?

Server is the self-hosted operations and monitoring app. Editor is the visual design tool for physical topology, devices, modules, cables, BOM, and PoE analysis.

What about commercial support?

Public bug reports, questions, and feature requests are community support on GitHub. Investigating your specific environment, private support with guaranteed response, deadline-bound work, and custom development are commercial — reach us at contact@shumoku.dev. Commercial support is delivered together with our non-exclusive partner TelHi Corporation (輝日株式会社); there is no sole official reseller of Shumoku.
